From 3D to AR (Augmented Reality) to mist projection, telepresence, and even this holographic display: (*) The holy grail of dimensionalized viewing has always been to create a digital display, that includes both interactivity for the end user, and ultimately display free.

The days of communicating like old Ben Kenobi are just around the corner. Many of us have dreamed of a day when we can call up a friend, or vidy a film, and feel truly immersed in the experience.

Though name conjours images of a freakishly well know director in the west, Burton Inc will be presenting it’s equally strangely named Aerial Burton.

As I understand it, the 3D of this device is very similar in theory to something I’ve long thought to be true: you should, Dr. Venkman, cross the streams.

If you imagine one source of light, let’s say a laser, to be a projected stream with a beginning and an end, and then use a second laser and send it’s stream at a perpendicular angle then the collision point of the two streams will generate an intensified “point” of light.  Multiply that out 100 times, and the light becomes visible at a single point in space.

By turning each beam on and off at a specific interval, you then have the equivalent of a single floating pixel, in true, volumetric 3d space.

Repeat this process, until you have enough points to define an object, and voila!

HUDisplay: What was it like working on God of War 3 and the God of War series in general?

John Palamarchuk: It’s fun. From an art standpoint, it’s a really interesting world to work in. Greek mythology is really fun – we put our own spin on it. When you play through the game you’ll see the variety of the worlds; it’s pretty phenomenal. You’re going to these different places.  Building all those worlds was really exciting with the artists.

You started working on God of War 2.What were the biggest challenges coming from God of War 2 to God of War 3?

Living up to God of War 3 and hopefully surpassing it. We were really happy with what we were able to pull off on the PS2. And now we were jumping on this new hardware and the technology was completely different. This is our first game on PS3, so how do we tackle that and from a design standpoint how do we design something that is new and innovative e that you’ve never seen before. So we have those titan levels that were pretty unique. We were trying to build off of the G0W franchise but also make improvements across the board. A ton of new camera features, graphics, all this new code tech. it’s a blast as far as working on PS3. We loved it.

Kratos’ kills have gotten way more gruesome. Was there anything that the designers had to leave out?

From a technical standpoint we were able to put in everything we wanted for the entire game. In the end, for the ratings, we had to pull some things or tone them down. There are some parts in the story that are pretty serious emotional, so if the gore got too crazy or the kills got too crazy then we would pull them out of that emotional experience, so we would retune that to keep it serious. But yeah, we kicked up the blood and gore. It’s HD now, so you’ll see a lot of stuff.

The centaur kills it.

The centaur is cool from the E3 demo, but we take it much farther than that in the full game. The centaur isn’t even on my radar (laughs)

Cute pink things attract the girl in me while gadgets appeal more to the nerd in me.

I just love something that embraces multiple parts of me like this:

This also reminds me of a story I heard the other day about this hot rebulican chick from Ohio who got boasted owning a pink handgun, which increased her crazy:hott ratio beyond attraction.

Kay, getting to the point… I think pink is great on some tech like Wii-motes but let’s not get overboard – plus guns aren’t cool (guns kill people)! But if there is some reasonably cool pink tech out there we would like — it just about all of my gamer girl peeps would like one — maybe yours too. Just saying… if you wanna get closer to your gamergirl, get her one of these & prepare a date of playing Wii all night. Good luck ;P
