A couple of years ago, the unthinkable happened – Universal Studios was on fire. I’m not talking movie fire, I’m talking “OHMYGODRUNFORYOURLIFE!” fire. The backlot was blazing and I could see the smoke from my house. The damage? The entire King Kong backlot attraction burned to the ground. Yeesh.

Lobo is one of those comic book properties that has to be done right or it’s going to come out like Roger Corman’s Fantastic Four. Which is actually an insult to that movie now that I think about it because it was certainly better than the first FF movie a few years ago.

Earthsmightiest.com (how many superhero websites are there?) managed to ask director Joe Johnston a couple of questions about Chris Evans as Captain America. The first question about how Chris will go from 98 pund weakiling to Captain America was cool and Johnston assured that it will be Chris we’re seeing throughout the entire duration of the film, but the second answer Joe gave to Chris being cast was puzzling…he was simply enthusiastic about the role? Here’s more from Earthsmightiest: In the end, Chris Evans was chosen. How did he present himself in that audition that made you feel that he was right for the part? JOE JOHNSTON: Chris didn’t audition at all. I was already familiar with everything he’d done and was championing his cause, not that I had a fight from the Marvel team. They were fans of his as well. He came in to the art department to say hi, saw all the jaw-dropping art and designs on the wall and reacted the way I’d hoped he would. It was really his wonderful enthusiasm for everything he saw that cinched the deal. We have some of the best designers and illustrators in the industryworking for us and the art is just incredible to wander through. He will bring the perfect balance of dramatic performance and physicality to the role. Click HERE to read Joe answer to their first question. So he just happened to be wandering the halls of Marvel Studios and saw artowrk and was excited? Is that all it takes to land a role? I wonder why all though other dudes bothered to audition then. Makes me think they had Evans in mind the entire time and the other casting stories like Krasinski were just that, stories. |

I can’t believe how much money this bad, bad movie made.
Just more proof that today’s audience are a suckers who complain about Hollywood churning out nothing but crap, then going to see it when that crap is finally released. I don’t know if it was the scores of women dragging their helpless and cowardly boyfriends to the movie, or if Aston Kutcher got all of his followers on Twitter to buy a ticket, but Valentine’s Day made huge numbers, opening at an estimated $52.4 million. If all it takes for a movie to open huge is to name the movie after the holiday and open it during that week, then they better change those future Halloween release dates. We reported last week that a sequel called “New Year’s Eve” might be on its way. With this opening, you can pretty much guarantee it. Good job, dummies. I hope your boyfriend broke up with you for making him see it.
